On July 26, 2024, Roman Chumak, the head of the board of the NGO "Interregional Expert Center “PRO Justice”, the managing partner of the lawyer association "Ares Law Firm", was a guest at the opening of the forum "Reintegration of veterans: Strategy, challenges, prospects".
The participants discussed issues of veteran policy, challenges in developing a national strategy for reintegration of veterans, and presented the results of a new study on the needs of this group.
The event was opened by Matthew Johnson, Stabilization Advisor of the US Embassy in Ukraine. He expressed gratitude and respect for the military on the front lines and emphasized the importance of the event, noting that the reintegration of veterans is a joint task of the government, public and private sectors.
Ruslan Prykhodko, Deputy Minister of Veteran Affairs of Ukraine, emphasized the need to unite efforts to transform veteran policy, create flexible and inclusive approaches that will meet specific requests.
Ulyana Bakh, director of IREX projects in Ukraine, emphasized the importance of a strategic approach to ensure a system and infrastructure working for the benefit of veterans. She noted that during the five years of operation of the program, which is supported by the US State Department, they have influenced the lives of more than 200,000 Ukrainian veterans and their families.
The discussions that took place were extremely relevant and urgent, especially at the current time, when Ukraine is already facing challenges regarding the reintegration of veterans into society.
